Owners of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S tablets will want to check this out. A preview of Android 5.0.2 Lollipop has been offered up to show you what you can look forward to when the new OS rolls out to your device. The updated OS brings with it some new features and a new look.

One of the features is an update keyboard and the update adds in a mute function as well. It's nice to see more devices finally getting Lollipop, and Lollipop is coming to the Lenovo line of smartphones next quarter.

The new OS looks the same on the tablets as it does on Samsung smartphones that run Lollipop. Colors, animations, and slides were all updated with the new version of the OS. It's unclear exactly when the OS will begin rolling out to owners of these tablets OTA. We hope that will happen soon.

It looks as though that the voice calling feature went live for some users of WhatsApp earlier this month, but even better news is this – that voice calling for WhatsApp is now available to every single user out there. Of course, not everyone will be able to take advantage of this unique feature just like that, since there are several loopholes to jump through in the first place. For instance, you will need to have the most recent version of WhatsApp installed on your device, and that would be version 2.11.531, although there are whispers of voice calling being supported on 2.11.541, too.

BlackBerry rolled out a major software update on Thursday, allowing users of its entire suite of BlackBerry 10 devices such as the Z10, Q10 and Z30 to access Android applications, and a host of other features, including Blend.

Software offers access to Android apps

The company said the BlackBerry 10 OS 10.3.1 gives users the ability to access both the BlackBerry World appstore and the Amazon Appstore that provides access to a host of Android applications previously unavailable on the BlackBerry platform.

In addition, BlackBerry said the new software will allow its users to access its new BlackBerry Blend feature that impressed many, when it was unveiled last year.

The Blend feature lets users get message notifications, read and respond to work and personal email, text and other messages, while also accessing files, calendars, contacts and other media, on whatever device one is using. It works across a host of operating systems including Apple's Mac OS, Microsoft's Windows platform and tablets powered by Google Inc's Android software.

The software upgrade will also introduce the new BlackBerry Assistant, a digital assistant that can be used with voice or text command to help users manage email, contacts, calendar and other applications. It rivals offerings such as Apple's Siri and Samsung's S Voice.

BlackBerry said subject to carrier approvals, the software upgrade has begin to roll out to customers around the world, since Thursday.

Apple to start making electric cars in 2020

Apple Inc aims to begin producing an electric vehicle as early as 2020, Bloomberg cited people with knowledge of the matter as saying, a seemingly aggressive target for a mobile devices maker with little experience in car manufacture.

The iPhone maker is pushing its "car team" of about 200 people to meet that goal, Bloomberg reported. But Apple may decide to scrap its car-making effort, or delay it, if executives grew unhappy with its progress, the news agency cited the people as saying.

Canadian creme that removes tattoos

As hard as we try, most of us are going to do a thing or two that we regret over the course of our lives. This new creme will help erase some of those regrets, though: it can make tattoos disappear.

So far, Alec has been testing his miraculous creme on tattooed pig ears. It’s not exactly the same thing as testing on a human, but it’s a very close analog. Tattooists have been honing their skills on pig skin for a long, long time, so it makes sense that Falkenham chose to trial his topical creme this way.

The creme works by targeting the white blood cells (macrophages) that captured the ink originally injected by the tattooist’s machine. A treated tattoo doesn’t vanish instantly once the creme is applied. Multiple applications are needed, and Falkenham isn’t completely sure how many would be required for complete removal.

That magic number would likely vary from person to person, too. When he says, then, that treating a 10cm by 10cm area would cost around $4.50 per treatment, it’s hard to say how big a bargain that works out to. It would probably still be a great deal cheaper than a laser removal.

There’s bound to be a sizable market for this magic macrophage creme. Plenty of people don’t like the thought of having a tattoo zapped away with a laser, and others may just prefer being able to look after removal themselves in the comfort of their own homes.

Alec’s creme has one other potentially huge advantage: it won’t leave behind any unwanted scars the way laser removal can. He’s now busily working with Dalhousie University’s Industry Liaison and Innovation office to bring the creme to market, so painless at-home tattoo removal might be in your no-to-distant future.

Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 810 chipset has no doubt managed to stay in the news prior to its launch than any of the previous Snapdragon chipsets. It all started with rumors of the chipset reportedly suffering from overheating issues. A few weeks later it was more or less confirmed that Samsung will not be using the Snapdragon 810 chipset on the Galaxy S6. Samsung’s key rival, LG, first claimed that the Snapdragon 810 chip doesn’t have any overheating issue and then later admitted that issue was indeed present but had been ‘fixed’.

To finally put an end to all the conundrum, Qualcomm has released new test data that shows its new Snapdragon 810 runs cooler than the previous gen Snapdragon 801 that was used in flagship smartphones last year. According to the test conducted by Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 801 chipset hits the temperature limit of 45°C after playing the Asphalt 8 game for about 20 minutes at 30fps. On the other hand, the new Snapdragon 810 managed to keep going beyond the 30 minute mark and still didn’t touch the 45°C mark.

In the second test, two smartphones were used to capture Ultra HD video for about five minutes. The Snapdragon 801 powered device hit a temperature of around 43°C while the Snapdragon 810 powered device managed to stay significantly cooler and barely touched the 35°C mark. Lower heat generation also means that the device will be able to perform smoother as smartphones tend to throttle performance when they hit the thermal threshold. In the case of the smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 801 in the above test, at the end of 20 minute mark, the Asphalt 8 gameplay will start to show signs of lag, affecting the overall gaming experience. On the other hand, the Snapdragon 810 powered smartphone will keep delivering smooth gameplay with a consistent 30 fps frame rate.

Although we wouldn’t say that this test is enough to conclude that the Snapdragon 810 is completely free from overheating issues, it does indicate that the issues, if any, may have been solved by Qualcomm. One of the primary reasons why we do not want to take these results as final is the fact that these tests have been conducted by Qualcomm and not a third-party. Hopefully when Snapdragon 810 powered devices start retailing, we will have more strong evidence on whether the Snapdragon 810 chip has any issues with its thermal efficiency.

Meanwhile, an early preview of the Snapdragon 810 performance results are sort of mixed for now as the Snapdragon 810 doesn’t seem to be as big of an improvement over the Snapdragon 805 as Qualcomm had claimed. In the GPU benchmarks, the Adreno 430 on the Snapdragon 810 does prove to be around 30% faster than the Adreno 330 but still trails Apple’s A8 and NVIDIA Tegra K1 in terms of overall graphics performance. Facebook has tied up with India's Reliance Communications to provide basic internet services on mobile phones for free, making India the first country in Asia to get Facebook's Internet.org service.

The companies will first offer the app in seven of India's 22 regions, or zones and it will then go nationwide in the next 90 days, Gurdeep Singh, chief executive of Reliance's consumer business told reporters.

The service is run by Internet.org, the non-profit organization whose backers also include Ericsson , Nokia, Samsung, Qualcomm and Opera Software, which has the declared aim of making basic Internet services available to the two-thirds of the world's population which is not yet connected.

The app, aimed at low income and rural users, will offer free access via mobile phone to more than 30 pared-down web services, focused on job listings, agricultural information, healthcare and education sites in seven regional languages -- as well as Facebook's own social network and messaging services.

It will be available to all of Reliance's 106.3 million subscribers who have handsets capable of handling internet traffic.

Singh declined to comment on who will bear the cost of carrying this data traffic for free.

Mobile phones sales have been booming in India, the world's second-biggest mobile market, with smartphone sales surging 90 percent in the October-December quarter. But less than 20 percent of the country's population can access the Internet -- leaving over a billion people offline.

Facebook said it had worked with Reliance Communications since last October to address barriers to connectivity.

Both Reliance and Facebook said they also expected to benefit from the venture over the longer term. India has the world's third-largest population of Internet users, and could take the number two spot this year.

"It gives us a great lever in terms of our proposition differentiation at the point of sale ... which will help us accelerate our acquisition journey of good quality, sticky customers," Singh said.

WhatsApp Plus continues to release regular updates but a rather concerning news hit several news outlets. It seems that the original developer of WhatsApp Plus received a legal letter to halt future development of the app.

New Privacy Settings And Tools

In version 6.7 users can not check a contact’s activity. The app now checks contacts regularity and builds a log with the times when they were online, status changes, photo updates and so on. The app also includes a means of protection against the same feature by enabling users to hide their online status and disable blue ticks and the 2nd grey tick.

A new feature that was added is the ability to disable the typing/recording into in chats with a contact or with a group. This feature is completely new and could prove to be useful for the ones that have the tendency to write something then correct it multiple times before sending the message.

Interface Changes

The interface of the app suffered some changes. There are now floating buttons which are more in line with the design of Android 5.0 Lollipop. These floating buttons can be hidden if required. Last but not least WhatsApp Plus is now available in multiple languages including German, Dutch, Portuguese and Turkish.

If neither of the two aforementioned prerequisites are met, then you’ll likely not be able to use the notification functionalities of the Wireless Charging Plate.
