How to send money over Gmail

Thursday 29 January 2015

Having launched in the US all the way back in 2013, UK Gmail users are finally able to send money over email using Google Wallet.
Sending money works much like sending a Gmail attachment. When the account is linked to a Wallet account, a pound sign will appear in the same bar used to send attachments. You simply attach electronic cash to an email.
GoogleGoogle Wallet accounts can be linked to bank accounts to let you transfer cash between your 'virtual' Google funds and your admittedly only-slightly-less-virtual bank account.
While the service has launched, it'll actually be rolled-out to UK users over the next few weeks. Checking ourselves, it doesn't seem like we're among the first few to get Gmail money transfers.

Digital world

This move seems likely to be part of Google's wider Waller roll-out, designed to combat the burgeoning, already-huge success of Apple Pay.
While not available in the UK yet, Apple Pay already accounts for two thirds of contactless payments in the US.

iPhone wireless charging

Tuesday 20 January 2015

Wireless charging is still in its infancy, but we’ve already seen a number of ways to wirelessly charge your favorite gadgets. The tech is limited depending on your handset, but one company is opening things up a bit by giving you the ability to add wireless charging to the iPhone or a number of Samsung devices. It’s called the Ampere Charging Sleeve, and it has just begun its Kickstarter campaign.

Before you get too excited, you should know that the Ampere Charging Sleeve will only work with around 9 devices. That said, those devices are some of the most popular phones on the planet with the iPhone 5C, 5S, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. On the Android side of things, Ampere is compatible with the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5, Note 3 and the recently released Galaxy Note 4.
ampere charging sleeve

With the iPhone’s, a slim lightning receiver sits on the back while the Android receiver goes under the back cover on the Samsung smartphones. The Nexus 5 was mentioned as being compatible as well, and one would assume you could “adopt” the charging setup to other devices with built-in wireless charging capabilities.

As for the actual charging sleeve itself, it consists of a premium leather sleeve with electromagnetic induction coils built-in and a 2,700mAh battery. It’s not the largest juice box around, but it’s more than enough to get you through the day and it even comes with dual-charging capabilities. Due to the nature of wireless charging, you can also use your phone while charging outside the sleeve as long as your handset and the Ampere Charging Sleeve are in contact.

The  Ampere Charging Sleeve is already fully funded on Kickstarter, and we’re into the “Stretch Goals” stage with 26 days still left on the clock. A lot of folks are interesting in the gadget for obvious reasons, and sets are currently going for around $79 bucks… and they’re going rather quickly. If you’re interesting in learning more about the Ampere Charging Sleeve or want to pledge some cash to pick one up, just hit up the link below to check out their Kickstarter campaign.

Microsoft's Latest Browser

Sunday 18 January 2015

Rumors about Microsoft's new browser, code-named "Spartan," have been heating up: It will be an app; no, it will not. It will replace Internet Explorer -- no, it will not.
It will use Microsoft's Trident rendering engine and the Chakra JavaScript engine developed for IE 9. Probably.
Spartan will be a new browser that will look and work more like lightweight browsers such as Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.
No, it won't.
"We are talking about IE 12," said Rob Enderle, principal analyst at the Enderle Group. "'Spartan' is just the code name."
Microsoft traditionally comes up with a new version of IE in line with a new release of the Windows OS, but "this will be the first time they try this across all consumer Windows devices

Loads of Features

Spartan reportedly will include Microsoft's Cortana personal digital assistant technology.
It apparently will offer digital inking support that will let Windows 10 users annotate Web pages using a stylus, send the notes and annotations to others, and store those pages in OneDrive where they can be accessed by any browser.

Spartan reportedly will let users group tabs any way they like. It may let users open multiple sites in a group of tabs together, so they won't have to switch between tabs.
Spartan reportedly will replace the "Modern" UI, aka "Metro," which was part of Windows 8.
The new browser will run across PCs, tablets and phones.
Microsoft has solicited user comments and opinions, which in itself is notable.

"This is so very different from Windows 8 and Vista, when it seemed like Microsoft was almost hiding from user comments and opinions," Enderle said.

Spartan reportedly will include a reading mode that will let users see just the text of an article, and will have a borderless window that lets content stretch to the screen's edges.

The Need for Innovations

Kisha is a smart umbrella that can predict the weather

Saturday 17 January 2015

There have been several attempts to improve upon the basic umbrella in recent years – the Rain Shield, which offers shelter from the wind; the Air umbrella, which uses a fan to stop the rain; and Nubrella, which is worn like a space helmet. Now, we have the smartphone-connected Kisha.
Kisha connects to your mobile phone via Bluetooth, giving it a couple of "smart" features.
Kisha is a smart umbrella that uses an app to predict the weatherFirst of all, the Kisha app lets you know the weather forecast for the day ahead in your current location. This includes telling you the chance of precipitation, and subsequent advice as to whether you should take Kisha with you or leave it at home.
Like the Blunt + Tile umbrella, Kisha is also aware of its location, notifying you when your phone (and thus you) has moved too far away. The idea is to prevent you from leaving your umbrella on the bus or elsewhere, so locations such as your car, home, or office can be deemed safe, preventing you from receiving unwanted notifications.
Even without the smart functionality, Kisha is an impressive umbrella. It's built to be 100 percent windproof and corrosion-proof, with a "perfect" opening and closing mechanism, "perfect" stitching, and 16 polyurethane ribs.
Kisha is available to buy for £39 (US$59) with free shipping included. Each umbrella comes with a 3-year warranty.

New Nintendo 3DS release date

Friday 16 January 2015

Nintendo’s popular portable was the star of the show during Nintendo Direct, the first of the company’s regular news videos for the New Year. In addition to showcasing a bunch of new games coming to the system, Nintendo announced that the upgraded model, the bluntly named New Nintendo 3DS XL, will finally arrive in America on February 13.
Unlike previous members of the 3DS family, the 3DS XL and the 2DS, this 3DS adds some substantial new hardware features. The handheld now tracks players’ faces and adjusts the 3D display so players can always enjoy the effect no matter their view angle. The added shoulder buttons and C-stick offer better controls for shooters, like upcoming indie title IronFall, and games like Monster Hunter 4 where camera control is crucial. There’s a built-in NFC reader for Amiibo support so players can scan in Fire Emblemfigures like Marth and Ike to upcoming steampunk strategy gameCodename: S.T.E.A.M.
The system has a better processor making web browsing smoother, downloads faster, and beefy games like Smash Bros. less taxing. While the New 3DS doesn’t include an AC charger, since Nintendo figures most gamers already have a compatible one already, it does opt for a microSD card slot instead of a full-size one, so existing 3DS owners making the jump will have to transfer data. It also looks like the $200 XL model will be the only New 3DS available in America, not it’s more compact Japanese counterpart. That means no custom faceplates either.
But what good is a video game system without games? Along with the titles mentioned above, Nintendo revealed the next Fire Emblem following up on the commercial and critical success of Fire Emblem: Awakening. They showed offPuzzles & Dragons: Super Mario Edition and the free-to-play, Candy Crush-esque Pokémon Shuffle, two games that give off heavy App Store vibes. They highlighted indie games like Citizens of Earth,Gunman Clive 2, and Moon Chronicles. A new Mario vs. Donkey Kong lands in March for 3DS and Wii U that lets players tip each other to reward good levels, but only in stars, not real money unfortunately.
For fans of the peculiar RPGs Etrian Odyssey and Mystery Dungeon, a new game is coming that mashes up the styles of both. The remake of the cult classic Wii RPG Xenoblade Chronicles arrives in April only for the New 3DS. Finally, the 3D remake of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask drops alongside the system on February 13 with a special, GameStop-exclusive Zelda-themed version of the handheld.
Wii U owners weren’t totally ignored, though. While the Fire Emblem news didn’t come with an update on the long lostShin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, RPG fans did get another look at the upcomingXenoblade Chronicles X. Bandai Namco vaguely teased some kind of free-to-play dungeon crawler called Project Treasure. Nintendo detailed the social features of their gnarly nautical shooter Splatoon coming this May.Hyrule Warriors is getting some Majora’s Mask DLC including the loathed Tingle. Kirby and the Rainbow Curse is coming on February 20 in all its Claymation glory. A new line of Mario Amiibo figures will be compatible with Mario Party 10 in March, and the Toad figure will work with Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker too. You’ll also soon be able to buy classic Wii games through the Virtual Console like Punch-Out!! and Metroid Prime: Trilogy.
That’s a lot of news. Be happy Nintendo fans

Google Translate App to Convert Talk to Text

Tuesday 13 January 2015

Google soon will update its Translate mobile app to render words spoken in popular languages into written text, according to The New York Times.

This feature is already available for some major languages in the Google Chrome browser.
In essence, the update will let two people converse in their own native tongues by listening to both and automatically translating their words into each other's language, Android Police reported in December.

It wasn't clear how the system would work, however. No mention was made of speech-to-text translation at that time.
Google would incorporate the Word Lens app, AndroidPolice said, which translates text and signs from other languages when a smartphone's camera is trained on them.
Google Translate to Convert Talk to TextGoogle acquired Quest Visual, which created Word Lens, last year.

Google Translate mobile "is a very interesting application," and the upgrade will give it "a whole lot of interesting possibilities in law enforcement, government, at the DMV ... and put Google in a good position to further monetize," said Mukul Krishna, a senior global director at Frost & Sullivan.

Skype offers free calls to the US and Canada

Tuesday 6 January 2015

Everybody's favorite video calling service, Skype, has just announced an exclusive offer to its Indian users: free Skype calls to US and Canadian numbers until March 1st, 2015. And what's better, you can take advantage of this deal right now!
Whether landline or mobile, all you will need is a registered Skype account and you should choose india during the registration  (the "offer" applies to both new and existing users) and a person to call. Users of the Android Skype app also qualify for the offer: as long as you have stable internet connection, calling US and Canadian numbers should work like a free dream.
If you are one of those people left to download the free app, you can get it at the Play Store at the link below.

Skype recently revealed its Skype Translator plans, a potentially revolutionary program which seeks to offer live translation on Skype calls between two languages – I guess resting on their laurels is one thing we can't accuse the Skype team of!
