New Galaxy S3 released by Samsung

Wednesday, 11 June 2014

Samsung released the Galaxy S3 Neo onto the German market today, almost identical to the Galaxy S3 except with 500 MB more of RAM and Android 4.4 KitKat
(GT-I9301), which is almost identical to the Galaxy S3, with one major exception: it comes with Android 4.4 right out of the box. First in Germany and in India, could this new arrival reach other countries?
The device isn’t on sale yet in Germany, though pre-ordering has already commenced. Samsung has made no official announcement of this device which was already released in India a while back, so we aren’t sure yet as to whether the device will be available worldwide. It simply appeared on the Samsung product page. The original international Galaxy S3 only has 1 GB of RAM, the reason for which Samsung is allegedly not updating the device to Android 4.4. The Galaxy S3 Neo, on the other hand, will come with 1.5 GB of memory, plus have the latest version of Android pre-installed. The device is 3G only and from what we can tell so far, will be released in its traditional white or blue colors.
In trying to understand the reasoning behind launching this device, and in Germany first of all countries, it makes me feel a lot empathy for all the angry users who are waiting for the KitKat update to then find out it isn’t coming. It seems like sort of a slap in the face that Samsung is releasing a ''better'' edition of the Galaxy S3 with Android 4.4 and just 500 MB more RAM, and leaving the older S3 users behind. Perhaps I’m alone in thinking this.

FIFA World Cup 2014: Fortune-Teller

Tuesday, 10 June 2014

Remember Paul the Octopus? The eight-legged creature who ran his rule over a lot of match predictions during Euro 2008 and FIFA World Cup 2010, picking 11 out of 13 Germany results correctly. Now it has emerged that an elephant from the locales of the Serengeti Park comes with abilities similar to Paul.
'Nelly' the elephant is no rookie! After predicting 30 of 33 results correctly from the women's FIFA World Cup in 2006, the men's FIFA World Cup in 2010 and the Euro 2012, Nelly seems to be nothing short of a football 'pundit.'
To add to her credibility, Nelly has a former Germany national goalkeeper, Sepp Maier, taking her side in her predictions.
"I share Nelly's predictions, that we will draw against Portugal and win against the USA and Ghana. So we'll stay in the tournament," he said.
Nelly also has to her credit, the correct prediction of the UEFA Champions League winner as Bayern Munich over local rivals Borrussia Dortmund in 2013.
With just days for the FIFA World Cup 2014 to begin, a lot of eyes will be on Nelly and the team she picks along the way during her incredible predictions.

Japanese referee to officiate opening game

Japanese referee Yuichi Nishimura will have the honour of refereeing the opening game of the World Cup finals between hosts Brazil and Croatia, Fifa announced on Tuesday.
The 42-year-old – the Asian Football Confederations' referee of the year in 2012 – will be assisted by compatriots Toru Sagara and Toshiyuki Nagi, with Alireza Faghani of Iran designated as the fourth official.
Having been in charge of four games in 2010, including the quarterfinal encounter between the Netherlands and Brazil, Nishimura becomes the third Japanese referee to have officiated at two World Cup finals after Shizuo Takada (1986 and 1990) and Toru Kamikawa (2002 and 2006).
Since making his international refereeing debut in 2004, Nishimura has been assigned to numerous other finals tournaments with his most important games the Under-17 World Cup 2007 final between Spain and Nigeria, and the Club World Cup 2010 final between Democratic Republic of Congo outfit TP Mazembe and Italian giants Inter Milan.

PREDICT  AND WIN RECHARGE

The biggest football fiesta on the planet has finally arrived and would kick off in a matter of days. The hosts are ready, the fans are ready.

EA Fifa 15 Excitements

Electronics Arts is letting virtual soccer stars in "Fifa 15" get psyched, or angry, on field just like their real-world inspirations.
A new version of the global blockbuster sport game infuses on-screen players with "emotional intelligence" designed to let them show how they feel about missed passes, brutal tackles, teammates, opponents and more.
"We want our fans to feel the highs and lows of the drama that is football, and experience the emotional rollercoaster that plays out during a match," said EA Sports executive producer David Rutter.
"We're now able to immerse you in the game and let the story of the match unfold based on new commentary, crowd activity, and the natural reactions of the players, which make every game unique."
"Fifa 15" on-screen players will express ranges of emotions that evolve based on how a game is going, and have attitudes about on-field allies and opponents.
The game was among an array of titles showed off by California-based EA at a press briefing on the eve of the Tuesday start of the colossal E3 video game trade show here.
EA said it tapped into the improved power of Xbox One and PS4 to make game play and graphics more realistic.
Versions of the game are also being tailored for prior generation Xbox and PlayStation consoles, along with the Nintendo Wii.
"Visually, this is the biggest step the Fifa franchise has ever taken," Rutter said.
"We set out with the goal of creating atmosphere, players, crowds, and pitches that not only look like they do on match day, but also feel like they do when you play or watch football - it's a level of immersion we've never been able to bring to the game before."
EA added full-body defending to separate opposing players from the ball, and strong defenses will be well rewarded. Team strategies right for situations are also encouraged.
Details

Your teammates and opponents now recognize what’s happening in the match and will adjust their tactics just like real players. Park the Bus, In The Mixer, and Time Wasting are some of the Team Tactics you’ll come up against in FIFA 15.

The Next Generation football player is here. Player faces have an incredible level of detail, while character models look and feel powerful and athletic. Kits move realistically and change with the environment, becoming dirty with mud and grass as the match unfolds.

Stadiums are alive and full of the emotion that only football can create. Playing surfaces wear down as the match progresses, with boot marks, slide tackles, and debris visible on the pitch. Corner flags move, goal frames shake, and animated LED ad boards bring FIFA 15 to life.

Leave defenders in the dust or control the ball like the world’s best footballers. Players explode into action with improved balance, cuts and closer touches when in possession, giving greater responsiveness and personality to the game’s superstars. Experience brilliant control as you keep the ball in a sprint or when searching for an opening in those close-touch situations.

Dispossessing your opponent is more rewarding than ever! Intercept and keep the ball with possession tackles and new shoulder barges. Feel the impact with big fall physics; shirt pulling will also be visible with enhanced cloth technology. FIFA 15 fundamentally changes the way you compete for the ball.

Ball physics are authentic. You’ll see better accuracy in the spin, curl and flight of the football as it moves realistically after each contact. In FIFA 15, the game evolves with astonishingly lifelike ball trajectories and spin while dribbling, passing, taking a touch, or blocking a shot.

Now you’ll command set pieces. Position off-the-ball teammates during throw-ins, corners, and free-kicks so they’re best placed to receive a pass and create attacking opportunities.

Out 23 September, North America. 25 September, Europe.
Xbox One, PS4 and PC powered by the EA SPORTS IGNITE Engine. Also available on Xbox 360, PS3 and other platforms.

              Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4

              Saturday, 7 June 2014

We’ve seen the 10.5-inch variant of the Galaxy Tab S in a couple of leaks already, including one that SamMobile exclusively published, and now, we’re getting the first look at the smaller, 8.4-inch variant of Samsung’s upcoming AMOLED tablet. Chinese regulatory authority TENAA has published photos of the Chinese variant of the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 (the Chinese variant sports model number SM-T705C), and along with the pictures, also listed some of its specs and they are expected to be made official at an event on June 12th, although we had no news on when exactly they would be available. Now a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and 10.5 release date has been claimed.

tab-s-8.4-4A timetable that is said to be from an anonymous US retailer has been leaked, and it says that pre-orders for the tablets will start on June 13th with the tablets becoming available on June 27th. While we cannot verify this information it does come from a very reliable source, and if accurate it means that we won’t even have to wait until the end of the month.

These photos are still a notch above the press photos we’ve seen of the Galaxy Tab S 8.4. As for the specs, the TENAA listing reiterates that the tablet will feature an octa-core processor, a 2560×1600 8.4-inch display, 3GB of RAM, and Android 4.4.2 KitKat. The tablet measures 125.6 × 212.8 × 6.5 mm and weighs 287 grams, which, as can be seen in the photos, should make for an extremely lightweight and slim tablet, especially for the hardware it is packing.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.4 and 10.5 release date claimedThe Galaxy Tab S will be officially announced on June 12, and will come with features such as a fingerprint sensor.

Firefox Update Users with Tab Grenade

              Wednesday, 4 June 2014

Firefox brings its users a solution yet again to save up on their memory! Firefox, acclaimed as the least memory using browser, has brought TabGrenade, that lets its users swipe off all the tabs in a single click and also save them.
Although Firefox is bringing it out in a fresh new look, the feature is much like Google chrome’s, OneTab.
TabGrenade is another attempt by Firefox to regain the lost space in the browser market. Its features do not mean that the memory used will be reduced anyhow, but in comparison to the Chrome’s feature, Firefox is still efficient with too many tabs open at once. Although it can be lagging on memory usage, there are innumerable ways in the market to deal with it.
Firefox enables its users to open many tabs and group them accordingly to display one group at a time in the browser. That is, the users can keep on adding as many tabs as they want to a group and opt to see just a specific group at a time. This is efficient manageability on the part of Mozilla and not its memory usage efficiency. The aspect of much praised reduced memory usage appears with the TabGrenade Free add-on. After the tabs are saved, the open tabs are then removed from the browser’s main window. This scrapes up the memory to a better figure in the process. The removed tabs can then be accessed on the tab list and not as open tabs.
In order to avail the extension, simply tap on the grenade to turn all the tabs into one list. Also, users must keep in mind that the list cannot be accessed directly. Upon going to the resource page, a user can see all the listed tabs along with the date and time it was created at, links and website title. Also, the users either get to open an individual link or to open the group of links, as listed. The users are provided with multiple options in this regard.
Deletion of the desired tab is also possible from a tab group and the list can be put up as a web page. This action will create a duplicate copy on www.tagrena.de where the list itself would be available in public.
Also, the necessary test reveals that Firefox used 274 MB RAM with ten pages open as tabs in one window at a time in a normal mode. With the TabGrenade used and the tabs added to the tabs list, it used just 175 MB!
              Cons
1 The first disadvantage is that a user cannot launch the internal pages shown on the tab list as they simply refuse to open. It is impossible to open the page even with several other methods like via about: pages.
2 It may not work in all situations.
3 Without evoking the basic function of an add-on, the resource page does not open up on any account.
Check it out on the official site: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-grenade/

Mortal Kombat X Released For PlayStation And Xbox

              Tuesday, 3 June 2014

Mortal Kombat X has been officially announced by series co-creator Ed Boon.
The game's first trailer has also been released. It features a battle between long-standing rivals Scorpion and Sub Zero.
The trailer features an original track by US rapper Wiz Khalifa, titled 'Can't be Stopped'.
According to the official description, Mortal Kombat X will be "fuelled by next-gen technology".

"Mortal Kombat X combines unparalleled, cinematic presentation with dynamic gameplay to create an unprecedented Kombat experience," the description continues.

The game, which will be shown at next week's E3 gaming expo, will be released on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3 and PC in 2015.

Players will be able to choose from multiple versions of each character, something which will impact moves and fighting styles.
In a Twitter exchange between Ed Boon and rapper Wiz Khalifa, the Mortal Kombat co-creator said that "on June 2 Kombat Kontinues".The game has also been listed for a 2015 release on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3 and PC by Amazon.
The most-recent "Mortal Kombat" was typically called Mortal Kombat 9, or MK9, so it could be said the "X" truthfully represents it as the 10th MK title

              Android 4.4.3 update

Android 4.4.3 is going to slowly rollout over the next couple of days, now that the update has hit some device and the factory images have been released. As that happens and more people get their hands on the new goodness, we will undoubtedly find subtle changes here and there that Google has tossed in. The first that we are noticing is a brand new skinned dialer that carries a much lighter theme than we saw in builds below 4.4.3.
new nexus dialer2This dialer has actually been seen before. The new skin, as you can see, includes all sorts of blue, white, and grey, rather than the blue, black, and white combo that we have seen up until now. There are also subtle changes to the history page, where a history button has been used in favor of the previous dialer’s call logo. You will see new green colors in places where you don’t have a contact image. Previously, Google used a grey icon.
              android 4 4 kitkat logo 4 4 3
If you don’t want to wait for the OTA to hit your device, you can always flash a factory image to get things like this new dialer. Just keep in mind that flashing a factory image will completely wipe your phone clean. You will lose everything.

World Cup Preparation For Brazil 2014
The fifa World Cup is here and we get you covered with all the fixtures from start to finish, jonesarena.blogspot.com will keep you updated on our soccer page

Nigeria's preparation for the Brazil 2014 Fifa World Cup will step up a notch when the Super Eagles take on the Greek national team in an international friendly in Pennsylvania, United States on June 3.
By the time the match kicks off at at the PPL Park in Chester, coach Stephen Keshi would have pruned down his 30-man squad to the final 23 that will wear Nigeria's colours at the prestigious tournament. .
              THE LAST MEETINGS
It is expected that Keshi will use this game to test the core of his squad after reliables like John Obi Mikel, Vincent Enyeama and Kenneth Omeruo were left out of the 2-2 draw with Scotland at Craven Cottage last week.
Like the proverbial shepherd tending his flock, Keshi will look to lead his charges into the game to see how far the team have come and what he needs to do in time for Nigeria's opening Group F fixture against Iran on June 16.
Greece are certainly no pushovers and they have continued in the same manner that saw them conquer Europe at Portugal 2004 where they stunned the world by adopting a ultra defensive formation principled by German coach, Otto Renhagel.
Coach Fernando Santos will look to polish his wards as they also get set for the World Cup where they will face Colombia, Ivory Coast and Japan in Group C.
              PREVIOUS ENCOUNTER
The June 3 meeting with Greece will be the fourth time the Super Eagles will engage the Greek national team at senior level.
Nigeria edged Greece 2-0 in 1994 at the Foxboro Stadium in the US in her maiden World Cup appearance. Goals from now assistant coach, Daniel Amokachi, and Finidi George gave Nigeria victory on the day.
Greece beat Nigeria 2-0 in a friendly international in November 1999 in Kilkis with Nikos Machlas scoring both goals.
The last time the two teams met, Nigeria lost 2-1 to the Greeks at the Fifa World Cup in South Africa, where a certain Sani Kaita got sent off as Greece rallied back from a goal down to beat Nigeria.
              LAST INTERNATIONALS
Nigeria played out a gritty 2-2 draw with Scotland at Fulham's Craven Cottage where the Super Eagles had to come twice from behind to claim a late draw.
Keshi started the game with a second string side and must have seen enough for him to decipher what needs to be done to make his players as cohesive as he would want them to be.
Goals from Michael Uchebo and Uche Nwofor late on salvaged a draw for the Super Eagles. The team were brilliant in patches and Keshi will surely want a wholesome consistent game from his players when they play Greece.
Santos' wards played out a goalless draw with Portugal last Sunday in an international friendly in the lead-up to the World Cup.
Greece did not create enough to trouble the Portuguese who rested Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid defender Pepe.
Santos went with a lone striker upfront as Fulham striker Kostas Mitroglou struggled to get into the game and made minimal impact. Surely the Portuguese coach will look to re-invigorate his team to be more offensive in the game against Nigeria.

Samsung unveils its first Tizen smartphone

                                             Samsung Z

Samsung is now living the dream: It’s built a smartphone that it can lard up with as much bloatware as it likes and there’s nothing Google can do about it. Samsung on Tuesday took the wraps off the Samsung Z, its first-ever smartphone that runs on its own native Tizen operating system. The new device features a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display, a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera, a fingerprint scanner, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a 2600mAh battery and Tizen 2.2.1.
Samsung Z Specs Release DateSamsung first started using Tizen this year with its Gear 2 smartwatch and it’s an operating system that the company has designed to lessen its dependence on Android and give it control of its own mobile ecosystem. Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S and Galaxy Note lines of phones will continue using Android as their platforms for the foreseeable future but the company doesn’t see any harm in popping out a few Tizen phones each year to see if there’s any demand for them.
Samsung will release the Samsung Z in Russia sometime in the third quarter this year and will gradually expand its availability in other markets later. No pricing information for the device has yet been announced, but we imagine Samsung will sell it for less than it sells the Galaxy Phones and the Galaxy Notes.

BBM 2.2 update for Android and iOS platforms

When Blackberry announced that its popular messaging service was going to be made available for both iOS and Android, it received a lot of downloads and a few updates but…there hasn’t been much other news about the app.
A couple of days ago BlackBerry announced a new update was on the way for the Android and iOS platforms, and it has now arrived on the Google Play Store for Android users.

Owners of the iPhone, iPad and iPod will have to wait a few more days until the BBM v2.2 update arrives on the App Store. BlackBerry has also said that an update is also on the way for owners of BBOS and BB10 smartphones in around two weeks time. This will bring many of the changes of the v2.2 update for Android and iOS, as well as some special touches!

Another interesting piece of news is that Blackberry is doing away with the whole PIN system. You won’t need to input a specific PIN number to add someone to your BBM messenger contacts; you’ll only need to click on the friends request link that is in your email and you will instantly become friends with that contact.
You can find the free BBM Android app at Google Play and some of the improvements the update brings are a simpler sign up for new BBM users, as well as a new sign in screen for current users. There are also 16 new emoticons. The updates tab has been re-named as ‘Feeds’ while v2.2 also brings bug fixes and performance enhancements.

Now the Android 2.2 update is rolling out, but different markets will get them at different times.

              Magnetic Stimulator for Migraine Treatment

eNeura, a company out of Baltimore, Maryland, received FDA 510(k) clearance for its SpringTMS device to treat migraine headaches. The device delivers transcranial magnetic stimulation, hence the TMS in the product name, in order to disrupt the electrical signals that are thought to be responsible for migraines.

The SpringTMS is intended for patients to use on their own, positioning the device behind the head and activating a single pulse using buttons on the handles. In published studies, the device has shown effectiveness similar to available medications but without any serious side effects. It already received European CE mark of approval and is available in the UK for migraine treatment and prevention.
From the announcement regarding what led to the FDA clearance:

              The FDA reviewed a double-
blind, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical study of 201 patients. The study, which took place in 18 U.S. centers, showed that nearly 38 percent of subjects who used sTMS when they had migraine headache pain were pain-free two hours after using the device compared to approximately 17 percent of patients in the control group. After 24 hours, approximately 34 percent of the sTMS users were pain-free compared to only 10 percent in the control group. The treatment did not produce any device-related serious adverse events.

Easiest way to write your name on the moon

It’s one of the great traditions, not of sci-fi but of fiction in general: if you want the world to know who’s really in charge, write your name on the moon. Actually, some famous moon-scholars from literary history have chosen to write other messages, but according to physics blog Canonical Momentum, the challenges are basically the same: if you want to leave a note on Luna, you’ll need some seriously impressive hardware.
The Tycho crater is one of the biggest, but even this is small when seen from Earth. The first and most important challenge will be planning the message itself. To be legible to the human eye on the ground (preferable, we’ll assume), the letters must be at least once arc-minute high, or we cannot distinguish between two points. This arc-minute size corresponds to roughly 100 kilometres, meaning that any detail smaller than that will smear together and produce an unreadable message. With a message like “Hello,” we end up with a final size roughly equivalent to that When it comes to actually creating the message, things get a bit more complicated. What do you use to make your mark? Nuclear weapons certainly have the fire-power, but they leave circular impact craters that are hard to use for drawing, and they certainly don’t stand out well against the rest of the moon’s surface.
Craters are also quite small, and despite all the destructive power of a nuclear bomb, its mark will still be small when seen from roughly 375,000 kilometers away. Though shadows, or hordes of coordinated mini-nukes could be used cleverly enough, we’re unlikely to use nuclear pointillism to rough out a message on the moon.
Using a laser is much more likely. At an achievable power level — say, 10 megawatts — a laser fired at the moon could cover roughly three meters with enough energy to reach the melting point of moon dust. This will have created a portion of the lunar surface that remains visible through reflection — though the downside is that the mark is only three meters to a side.
Firing this X-ray laser will require a huge fraction of the energy used by the US each year, but should work at slowly burning a message into the moon. The word “slow” is operative here, as something like a 50,000-year timeline becomes necessary when working with any existing laser technology.
Check out the full post for a much more detailed look at how this all might work. The ultimate point of this thought experiment is to illustrate how hard it would be to do something like write your name on the moon — thankfully, hard enough that it probably won’t happen until a man with a chair for a face becomes ambitious. Remember, though, the Moon is tidally locked to the Earth and thus shows us only one side; if someone did write their name on the Moon, we’d have to stare at it non-stop until the end of our planetary system.
Or, of course, until someone invented Lunar tattoo removal — and the real world doesn’t have a Tick to send to the Moon with bombs strapped to his back.
